Meat establishment requirements

A plain-English explanation for farmers, connected to the official UK source.

Issued by Food Standards Agency

What this means

Meat sold to customers normally needs an approved slaughter and handling route. Cutting, mincing, processing and supplying other businesses can change which approvals apply.

What to do

  1. Identify the approved slaughterhouse and cutting premises.
  2. Record approval numbers and every activity carried out at your premises.
  3. Obtain the responsible authority’s decision before offering the product.
